Hong Kong Special Administrative Region includes Hong Kong Island, Lantau Island, Kowloon and New Territories. Kowloon is attached to the New Territories to north, and the New Territories connect with mainland China across Sham Chun River (Shenzhen River). territory encompasses 262 islands in South China Sea, of which Lantau is largest.

Hong Kong has large harbour known as Victoria Harbour and is one of deepest natural sea ports in world.

Although many people might imagine that Hong Kong is entrirely urbanized, it has been called one of greenest cities in Asia. Most of the territory remains undeveloped as most of land is hilly with steep slopes. In fact, less than 25% is developed. remaining land is remarkably green with about 40% reserved as country parks and nature reserves.

Hong Kong is 60 kilometres east of Macau on the opposite side of Pearl River Delta. To north it borders Shenzhen in Guangdong Province. highest point in the territory is Tai Mo Shan, (958 metres above sea level).

Hong Kong is important centre for international finance and trade with greatest concentration of corporate headquarters in Asia-Pacific region. In terms of gross domestic product per capita and gross metropolitan product, Hong Kong is wealthiest urban centre in People's Republic of China.
